Dongsung Chemical has completed the expansion of its organic peroxide production facilities at its Yeosu plant and commenced full-scale operations. This expansion adds more than 4,000 tons of annual production capacity, marking a significant milestone in its fine chemicals business.

This expansion positions Dongsung Chemical to strengthen its domestic and global market share by diversifying its product portfolio and leveraging its stable production capabilities. The company aims to tap into high-value polymer markets through the development of new organic peroxide products aligned with its acid-based processes. Additionally, it is actively working to localize the production of powder-type organic peroxides, which have been reliant on imports.

The investment follows Dongsung Chemical’s 2023 strategic decision to scale down its petrochemical business, which has high carbon emissions and low profitability, and invest in high-growth specialty chemicals to build a sustainable business. As part of this transition, over 70% of the petrochemical facilities at the Yeosu site were dismantled, and approximately KRW 18 billion was invested to expand organic peroxide production.

Organic peroxides are essential materials used as initiators and crosslinking agents for polymers such as LDPE, PVC, and EVA. These are critical components in high-value industries, including solar energy, automotive manufacturing, and wire and cable. Global demand for organic peroxides continues to rise in tandem with the growth of these sectors.

“This expansion enables us to respond proactively to the growing global demand for organic peroxides and accelerate our entry into new markets,” said ManWoo Lee, CEO of Dongsung Chemical. “We are committed to evolving our fine chemicals business into an eco-friendly, high-value operation that strengthens our competitiveness both in Korea and globally.”
