Professor Cho Jong-ho of Samsung Medical Center delivers a presentation on the clinical evidence and real-world use of Welpass during the Welpass Product Presentation and Live Surgery Observation Program.

Genewel is accelerating its global expansion with Welpass, a sustained-release drug delivery device for postoperative pain management.

The company recently hosted the Welpass Product Presentation and Live Surgery Observation Program for representatives from Indonesian pharmaceutical company Pyridam Farma Tbk and local physicians. Following a similar program for gastrointestinal surgeons in January, the event expanded to thoracic surgeons as Genewel broadened academic exchange with physicians across multiple specialties in Indonesia. Earlier this year, the company entered into a strategic partnership with Pyridam Farma and officially launched Welpass in the country.

The program featured a presentation by Professor Cho Jong-ho of the Department of Thoracic Surgery at Samsung Medical Center, who led the clinical study of Welpass, and a live surgery observation session led by Professor Seong Yong-won of the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery at Seoul Metropolitan Government-Seoul National University Boramae Medical Center. Participants also reviewed real-world clinical use of Welpass and its clinical effectiveness.

“Welpass is a new solution that effectively controls postoperative pain while supporting patient recovery,” Professor Cho said. “I believe it will become a valuable treatment option for both healthcare professionals and patients in Indonesia.”

Welpass is an innovative medical device that uses sustained-release drug delivery technology. Mixed with a proprietary gel and applied to the surgical incision site, a local anesthetic is released gradually over approximately 72 hours to help relieve postoperative pain.

Welpass has been well received in Indonesia since its launch, with local healthcare professionals and market stakeholders recognizing it as a next-generation solution for postoperative pain management. Genewel expects Welpass sales in the country to accelerate this year.

In the second half of the year, Genewel plans to continue the program for physicians specializing in gastrointestinal surgery, thoracic surgery, and obstetrics and gynecology. The company also plans to expand into neighboring markets, including Singapore and the Philippines, as it broadens its presence in the global pain management market.

“This program strengthened our partnership with Pyridam Farma and highlighted the clinical value of Welpass to physicians in Indonesia,” said Han Sang-deok, CEO of Genewel. “By leveraging Pyridam Farma’s distribution network and manufacturing capabilities for the local anesthetic ropivacaine, we expect to further expand Welpass’s market share in Indonesia.”

Welpass successfully completed South Korea’s New Health Technology Assessment in 2025, receiving official recognition for its safety and clinical effectiveness. The product is currently supplied to approximately 160 major hospitals across the country. National Health Insurance reimbursement, expected later this year, is expected to further increase adoption.
